Club Racing Classes

Slotmasters has raced many and varied models over the years at Thunderbird Raceway. Current classes are mostly 1/32. Wednesday and Friday nights race a different format, but the car classes are similar or the same these days.

Class Details

This is a summary description of the cars eligible for each class. Please refer to the Slotmasters club handbook for details – these details can be significant!

Note that Clubman class allows very few modifications if any. Again check your handbook.

Classic Sports Car  – pre 1975

  • 1/32 scale, 30K motor max, limited model brands, no added weight, no magnets.
  • Notionally LeMans/GT cars from the 1970s
  • These cars will present with original sizing of wheels and tyre profile or a close match
  • Wheels and tyres should not exceed the widest part of the wheel arch.
  • 1mm clearance minimum with all wheels on the scrutineers board and the guide “in play”

Classic Spyder Sports Car

Same as Classic Sports Car above, but your car was made with no roof. ie Open Top.

LMP & PROTOTYPE Sports 30k: (Open)

  • 1/32 scale, 30K motor max, limited model brands, no added weight, no magnets.
  • LeMans Prototype, Daytona Prototype cars with motors inline to chassis
  • Group C, pre 1990 cars not allowed
  • These cars will present with original sizing of wheels and tyre profile or a close match
  • Wheels and tyres should not exceed the widest part of the wheel arch.
  • 1mm clearance minimum with all wheels on the scrutineers board and the guide “in play”

NSR Mosler

  • 1/32 scale, 30K motor max, limited model brands, no added weight, no magnets.
  • NSR Mosler MT900R sports cars only
  • Wheels and tyres should not exceed the widest part of the wheel arch.
  • 1mm clearance minimum with all wheels on the scrutineers board and the guide “in play”

Open Wheeler 30k

  • 1/32 scale, 30K motor max, limited model brands, no added weight, no magnets.
  • Notionally F1, there is no restriction on the formula or the era the car represents.
  • If the car has wings, all wings must be affixed
  • Maximum axle widths must be observed
  • 1mm clearance minimum with all wheels on the scrutineers board and the guide “in play”

Scalextric Classic F1

  • 1/32 scale, Standard Mabuchi FF motor, standard ratios, Scalextric models only, no added weight.
  • 1960/70’s classic F1 Cars only. eg Lotus 72, Lotus 49, Tyrrell 003, etc
  • These cars will present with original sizing of wheels and tyre profile or a close match
  • Wheels and tyres should not exceed 70mm width
  • Original Front rims
  • 1mm clearance minimum with all wheels on the scrutineers board and the guide “in play”
  • Maximum of 350G “down-force” on Magnet Marshall.

Modern Sports

  • 1/32 scale, 30K motor max, limited model brands, no added weight, no magnets.
  • Notionally LeMans style GT and GT3 cars, but not classic sports cars and NOT LMP.
  • NSR cars are not allowed except the Clio/Arbarth
  • These cars will present with original sizing of wheels and tyre profile or a close match
  • Wheels and tyres should not exceed the widest part of the wheel arch.
  • 1mm clearance minimum with all wheels on the scrutineers board and the guide “in play”

Rally – Inline Motor

  • 1/32 scale, 30K motor max, limited model brands, no added weight, no magnets.
  • Rally Cars. Require driver and co-driver. Only cars with motors inline to chassis
  • These cars will present with original sizing of wheels and tyre profile or a close match
  • Wheels and tyres should not exceed the widest part of the wheel arch.
  • 1mm clearance minimum with all wheels on the scrutineers board and the guide “in play”

ScaleAuto 1/24

  • 1/24 scale, limited Motor type and brand up to 25k, no magnets.
  • Scale-Auto RTR cars or “White Kit”.
  • Optional Soft body – 2014 Season 2
  • 1.5 mm clearance minimum with all wheels on the scrutineers board, but the guide “out of play” (SC-5007 “purple” tech plate.)

Scalextric Muscle Car

  • 1/32 scale, Standard Mabuchi 18K motor, standard ratios, Scalextric models only, no added weight.
  • 1970’s classic Muscle Cars only, Mustang, Corvette, Camaro, Charger etc
  • These cars will present with original sizing of wheels and tyre profile or a close match
  • Wheels and tyres should not exceed the widest part of the wheel arch.
  • 1mm clearance minimum with all wheels on the scrutineers board and the guide “in play”
  • Maximum of 350G “down-force” on Magnet Marshall.

Super cars – Open (Control Class)

  • 1/32 scale, limited Motor type and brand, Specific metal chassis brands only, no added weight, no magnets.
  • No foam tyres
  • Controlled rim sizes
  • Polycarbonate   touring car bodies only
  • 1mm clearance minimum with all wheels on the scrutineers board and the guide “in play”

SLOT.IT Group C

  • 1/32 scale, 30K motor max, Slot.IT models only, no added weight, no magnets.
  • Notionally LeMans style Group C cars from the 1980s
  • These cars will present with original sizing of wheels and tyre profile or a close match
  • Wheels and tyres should not exceed the widest part of the wheel arch.
  • 1mm clearance minimum with all wheels on the scrutineers board and the guide “in play”

Group 5

  • 1/32 scale, 30K motor max, Group 5 models only, no added weight, no magnets.
  • Notionally Group 5 cars from the 1970/80s (Series 4)
  • These cars will present with original sizing of wheels and tyre profile or a close match
  • Wheels and tyres should not exceed the widest part of the wheel arch.
  • Friday Night only allows for Sideways brand cars.
  • 1mm clearance minimum with all wheels on the scrutineers board and the guide “in play”
