“Marlboro Park” Raceway 2018 events – Season 1?

Sadly is nearly a year since I last documented the racing and the politically incorrect Marlboro Park Raceway! Here we relive past slot car glory while righting the worlds wrongs – in theory at least.

We start the “season” with a very creative Rally style event.

Standard “production sports” cars circa 1977 with “Johnson” motors. Rolly has extensively and scientifically tested all of the available models in a double blind indelible test of performance. From this he developed the following handicaps.

Car Fastest Lap Time Projected laps. (6 mins) Start heat at seconds elapsed. Projected laps with time handicap Start race at
Triumph 9.344 38.5 Scratch 38.5 6 mins
Mini 8.891 40.5 17.5 38.5 5 mins 43s
Datsun 8.867 40.6 18.4 38.5 5 mins 42s
Escort 8.485 42.4 33.1 38.5 5 mins 27s
Porsche 8.422 42.7 35.5 38.5 5 mins 25s
BMW 8.313 43.3 39.7 38.5 5 mins 20s

The Results

Barry 1st Place with the fantastic Ford Escort MK1 RS1600 Mexico

Rolly 2nd Place in the tortoise like but well driven Triumph (but not triumphant) TR7

Gary J 3rd place in the favored BMW 3.0 CSL

Also a noteworthy 4th for Gary E in the Datsun 260Z!

Tragically, the Ford “team” was not able to deliver the 1 & 2 victory in memory of the 1977 Moffat/Bond victory at Bathurst. This probably for the best, saving our host from a tragic aneurysm!

“Marlboro Park” Raceway 2017 events – Season 1?

Retro Scalextric racing at Rolly’s place.

It’s always fun to have a race – BBQ night at Rolly’s, racing on the “Politically incorrect” “Marlboro Park” Raceway!

Super V8s was our latest race (VX-VY/AU-BA). Gary J continues his stranglehold on “the cup”.

Gary J – 1st, Barry – 2nd, Rolly – 3rd.

Earlier this year we raced Mini’s and we dusted of the early 70’s cars.

Vintage Tinplate

Scalextric Tin Plate Ferrari 375

Another lovely old car on display, thanks to Kevin M for sharing. The “gimbal” pickup guide is amazing.

Kevin Writes:- “Scalextric Tin Plate Ferrari 375, C 1957-1959. Motor and rear axle are integrated into one unit, gimbal wheel pickup guide. One rear wheel has hard rubber for drive, the other three are hard plastic, helping the car slide into corners. The driver figure is moulded from rubber.

Sean’s Truck!

Sean is always working on something new. This truck has been developing over a few weeks/months I imagine. Looks great.

Not sure about the JPS on the Fly prime mover and the other manufacturer of cancer sticks on the trailer, but it still looks good.

Disclaimer – “Slotmasters Slot car club does not endorse smoking!” (Unless it’s Slot car tyre rubber!)

Kev’s Restoration Project – Tamiya 1/24 Lola Spyder

Kevin M has two of these vintage slot cars, one restored and one a project car he plans to bring up to the same standard. The difference really shows between the restored car and the  Lola still waiting for restoration.

About The Restored Car

“Mid to late 1960’s Tamiya 1/24th scale Lola T70 Spyder Can-Am Car. Inline brass chassis with rear suspension, Mabuchi 36D motor.”

IMG_3953The Yet to be Restored car

“Mid to late 1960’s Tamiya 1/24th scale Lola T70 Spyder Can-Am Car. Inline brass chassis with rear suspension, Mabuchi 26D motor. This car is in the original condition as raced in the 1960s.” (Although it probably looked better in the 60’s – ed.)

I was unaware that Tamiya had ever made Slot Cars! Thanks for sharing this with us Kevin!

2015 End of Season 2 Fun night – Ninco Night!

Fun Night on the Brabham track with old favorites!

Great turn out for slot racing and pizza!

The old Ninco cars (along with a few Fly/Scalextric) got dusted off for one night only. As a “no points”, it was a great opportunity to relive the old classes or run a favorite car that has no class to run currently.

Some of the lineup we raced.

Nice ute.

Oldies, and some not so old…
